For me, wealth means having savings for when life happens. It means not living beyond your means, being able to comfortably support your family, and contributing to causes you care about.

Steward Group’s founder Rob is a family man and a mega visionary who hates talking about money *almost* as much as he hates losing. Rob goes all in on  everything he does. Could he have retired long ago? Yes. But he has too much to contribute to stop working just yet.

Listening well, making people feel comfortable when they’re uncomfortable, and opening the door to strangers.

What do you want people to know about Steward Group?
I overheard Andrew on the phone with a client who was in the hospital after having a heart attack. Andrew offered to go to his home and cut the grass for him. We are the team that shows up at the fire because that’s what neighbours do.

Freedom.

Ben is a driven and reliable individual with a passion for problem solving. He enjoys playing and watching sports (not a Leafs fan however), and the same qualities that make him a great teammate also make him a valuable member of Steward Group.

What’s difficult about your job?
In our industry, it can be challenging to manage client expectations during volatile times. But by communicating clearly and educating our clients, we can help them grasp their investments and the broader market context, which in turn strengthens those relationships.

What do you do better than anyone else?
Part of me wishes I could say something about my golf game but that wouldn’t be fully accurate. That being said, I think I handle criticism better than most.

What’s the difference between good and great in this industry?
Good: maintaining solid relationships with clients. Great: building trust-based partnerships and truly understanding each client’s unique goals, needs, and values.

How do you leave people better than before they found you?
By helping them set achievable goals and celebrating milestones to reinforce that progress is being made.

Emma has the ability to see what needs to be done… and then she just makes those things happen. She deeply values her relationships and spends her free time either adventuring outside, hanging out with her cats, or practicing one of her many hobbies (printmaking, art, baking, reading etc.).

What’s the difference between good and great in this industry?
Being able to anticipate and understand the unique needs of clients by curating genuine relationships, where your interactions feel like meeting up with an old friend rather than a business transaction.

What are people surprised to learn about you?
Probably my height!

How do you leave people better than you found them?
By being an active listener and showing them you care. Kindness and empathy go a long way.

What is the most valuable personality trait a person can have?
Empathy. Being able to understand and relate to the feelings of others is invaluable in creating genuine relationships with people.

What is wealth?
Not having to constantly worry about money. Being able to afford the cost of living, the things you love, expenses you can’t predict, and having the ability to give back.

Matthew (or Matt, as we like to call him) is an excellent listener, a life-long learner, and a keen problem solver with a killer work ethic. If his career path hadn’t led him to the financial services industry, Matt likes to imagine that he’d be a professional golfer or baseball player or both. Why not? Dream big!

Good is helping solve a problem. Great is being able to listen, communicate, and form close relationships while finding the most suitable solution for a client.

What are you most proud of? 
My work ethic and a willingness to learn and improve each day.

By actively listening and understanding the situation from their perspective. I try to leave people feeling understood and supported.

What’s the most valuable personality trait someone can have?
The ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes.

To me, wealth means being financially secure, healthy, and supported, while having the
freedom to enjoy the things that mean most to you.

You’re six-years-old again for 24 hours. What are you doing?
Playing soccer with my friends and enjoying watermelon slices and granola bars after
the games.

My willingness to keep learning and trying new things.

Good professionals understand the numbers. Great professionals understand the people behind the numbers and earn their trust.

What is the most valuable personality attribute a person can have?
Integrity, because everything else loses value when your word cannot be trusted.

What are you fighting for? What are you fighting against?
I am fighting for freedom, purpose and generational progress. I am fighting against fear, complacency, and the belief that people must remain limited by where they started.

What is wealth?
Wealth is having the freedom, resources, and peace of mind to live purposefully, care for the people you love, and make choices without fear.

How do you leave people better than when they found you?
I listen, share what I know and help people see possibilities they may not have seen for themselves.

I’m spending the day playing soccer on the street with the boys, asking endless questions, eating my favourite childhood foods, and enjoying life without worrying about what comes next.
