A New Chapter at Steward Group: Empowering G2

First things first—I’m not retiring. The content I’ve been sharing lately has been about me letting go of some control at Steward Group, but I’m not going anywhere yet. I’m still as committed as ever to Steward Group, our clients, and our team.

But as I mentioned last week, I recently learned a hard lesson about the importance of introducing my clients to the next generation of advisors. (If you missed that story, click here to get caught up.)

Which brings me to the big news I’m sharing today.

Last month, we signed a bunch of papers that officially made Andrew Nguyen and Megan Rooney co-owners in our business.

Andrew will continue in his role as Advisor, and Megan has formally become a second boss for the Steward Group. I could not be more excited for what’s ahead.

Why would I give away a portion of my company?

The selfish reason? I’d rather have 80% of something great than 100% of something just really good. I don’t want to simply talk about empowering the next generation of leaders—I found myself in a position to actually do something about it. So I did.

This wasn’t just a business decision; it’s deeply personal. Steward Group has been my life’s work, and I want to ensure its success long after I’m no longer at the helm. The best way to do that is by trusting my team—the G2 Steward Group—to step in while I’m still here, get to know you, and provide the same level of care and expertise that I’ve delivered for so many years.

What does this mean for you?

Let me be very clear… I’m not going anywhere. I’ll still be here, doing what I love—working with clients, coming up with big ideas, questioning conventional ways of thinking, and helping guide our team. But I’ve made the decision to give Andrew and Megan ownership in the business because I know they can help us become better.

Megan and Andrew bring fresh energy, new ideas, and a commitment to our clients that’s unmatched. This isn’t just a symbolic transition—it’s a shift that will make our team more diverse, dynamic, and better equipped to serve you.

Why Megan and Andrew?

These two have been by my side, showing a dedication to our clients and our mission that reflects everything Steward Group stands for. They have both demonstrated their commitment to Steward Group’s future, and I trust them completely to carry on the legacy we’ve built together.

While I’m not stepping off the stage anytime soon, this change is my first effort towards ensuring the next generation is ready to take the lead when the time comes.

The power of letting go

Letting go of control is tough for any entrepreneur—especially for those of us who are, shall we say, a bit control-oriented. But letting go is necessary for growth. While holding on can be comforting, it can be stifling for a business and for a team.

Nothing changes in terms of the care and attention you receive—except now, you have two more people as invested in your success as I am. We all have ownership of the business and are here to ensure that your financial future is as bright as possible.

Looking ahead

I appreciate your trust in Steward Group, and I’m excited about the road ahead for all of us. We’re committed to continuing the personal, client-first approach that’s defined us for so many years, with the added bonus of a fresh perspective from Megan and Andrew.

Thank you for being part of this journey—there’s a lot more to come.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to chat.
